When He (Jesus) looked out over the crowds, His heart broke. So confused and aimless they were, like sheep with no shepherd.
Matthew 9:37
"I am the Good Shepherd. I know my own sheep and my own sheep know me. In the same way, the Father knows me and I know the Father. I put the sheep before my self, sacrificing myself if necessary. You need to know that I have other sheep in addition to those in this pen. I need to gather and bring them, too. They'll also recognize my voice. Then it will be one flock, one Shepherd.
John 10:14
As we sat on this road blocked by sheep, I observed many things. First, this was a two lane highway. There was another car in front of us and two more cars on the other side going the opposite direction. The shepherd was on our side of the highway trying to get his sheep to cross. Scripture says we will know our Shepherds voice, and come when He calls.
The second thing I noticed was, all the cars were honking at the sheep, from both sides of the road at different times. The sheep were confused, there was a lot of noise, so much noise that it drowned out the voice of the shepherd! They could not hear his voice calling to them, they were caught on a busy highway, distracted & scared walking one way, hearing the honking and turning another way. Although the shepherd was right by them the whole time, they were lost, they were as sheep without a shepherd.
I began to think we are the same way in our lives. Jesus, our shepherd, calls to us by name, BUT we can't hear His voice above the noise of, TV, money, ministry, busyness, pornography, sports, vacation, chasing the "American Dream". We can't hear his voice above...............
We can't hear our Shepherds voice. How then will we know which way to turn? How then will we be protected from the dangers of the world? We MUST rid ourselves of the distractions, so we can clearly hear and follow our Shepherds voice.
What have you heard your Shepherd say to you? Are you willing to follow the sound of His voice? What has He called you to? He wants us to obey and follow Him to safety.
"I am the Good Shepherd. The Good Shepherd puts the sheep before himself, sacrifices himself if necessary. A hired man is not a real shepherd... he is only in it for the money, the sheep don't matter to him".
