A Servants Heart

After that, he poured water into a basin and began to wash his disciples' feet, drying them with the towl that was wrapped around him. John 13:5

Sundays lesson at church for the children was about being servants, and feet washing. They all came home with wash clothes wraped around a bar of soap tied off with a scripture, John 13:5. I didn't realize that C~6 realized what it was about until I heard her talking about Jesus and washing. I told her that we are servants of God and that He washed the feet of his friends.

By the time we got home, she was on her way to feet and washing. She started with C~4 and then on to Amy and Mommy, then her self. She loved every minute of it as you can see from the pictures above.

I love about that when my kids go to Sunday School at Calvary Chapel Surprise, they are indeed learning about Jesus to the fullest, that is obivous. The second thing I love is the lesson that this presented to me. The Lord says, that we should come like little children. He wants us to be bold with abandoned thought. My little C~ didn't have any issues washing feet, or spending time being a true servant. Nothing crossed her mind like, gross, me wash feet, no way! She enjoyed it and laughed and rubbed our feet. She wanted to continue even when we were done. After, she carefully dried our feet and moved on to the next one.

Granted she is a child and doesn't have full understanding, but it is an attitued to adopt. I find myself asking questions like, do I live to be a full servant? Do I abandon all fleshly desires to live fully for Christ and do what he calls me to do, am I obediant? Do I do what he askes even when I think it is "yucky" or something less desirable?

Jesus is our perfect example of being servants. He was a servant unto death. He loves us and wants us to share that love with others. We may not wash their feet, but we could serve them in other ways.

Lastly, when we serve we experience great joy. The people who receive the service are blessed, but we are truely blessed in return and our joy overflows.

Out of the most severe trial, their overflowing joy and their extreme poverty welled up in rich generosity. For I testify that they gave as much as they were able, and even beyond their ability.....And they did not do as we expected, but they gave themselves first to the Lord and then to us in keeping with God's will. 2Cor 8:2,3,5
